Today we'll explore a little bit of our favorite luxury sedan's beginnings, including where it gets the name CTS. Some special facts about its introduction: it was the first Cadillac to offer a manual transmission since the Cimarron back in 1988, though today the sedan is only available in 6- and 8-speed automatic (You can still find a manual on some used models, though, if that's your thing!). The first generation CTS also helped usher in Cadillac's now-famous "Art & Science" design language that still permeates the brand's stunning lineup. CTS stands for Catera Touring Sedan, as the model came in as Cadillac's successor to the Catera mid-size sedan which was produced from 1997-2001.
