Is your child ready to leave the booster seat?

When to move kids to seat belts General Motors, the company that makes our great cars, trucks, and SUVs here at Palmen Buick GMC Cadillac, has recently helped fund a study by the Safe Kids Worldwide organization that has helped to point out a pretty worrisome trend: that is, nine out of ten parents don't know the height a child should be before they ought to ride in a car without a booster seat. Do you? Today we'll talk about when to move kids to seat belts based on their height -- help spread the word! The study, based on a national online survey of one thousand parents with children ranging from age 4 to 10, found that by and large, parents are taking their kids out of booster seats before they're tall enough. Maybe the kids get restless and start to ask to be taken out, maybe other parents are already starting to do so, or any number of factors could be contributing to the early shift to seat belts. In any case, it's important to make sure we have the correct information for optimal safety, and certainly any parent would agree. So what is the right height for moving your kids to a seat belt from a booster seat? According to guidelines, we know that seat belts aren't made to fit properly for a person who is less than 57 inches tall and between 80 and 100 pounds. If your child meets one of these standards but not the other, hold off on making the switch to seat belts. Safe Kids Worldwide is a nonprofit that aims to prevent unintentional child injury through a variety of accident and injury prevention measures, and education through studies like this one are a huge part of that effort. GM is proud to support Safe Kids Worldwide, and likewise we are proud to be a GM dealer. If you've got any questions about fitting your child safety seat, or whether it's time to move your child to a seat belt, please don't hesitate to stop in and ask us and one of our helpful associates will help you out!

Get ready for Halloween in Kenosha!

Kenosha Trick or Treat 2014 It's that time of year when spooks, superheroes, and celebrities all mingle on the sidewalk while dashing from house to house collecting candy from the neighbors -- that's right, Halloween is almost here and we've got the scoop for you on when Kenosha Trick or Treat 2014 will take places, as well as some friendly Halloween safety reminders. Alright, so first things first: When is trick or treating 2014 in Kenosha? According to the City of Kenosha, trick or treating will take place from 5:00pm to 8:00pm on Friday, October 31, 2014. During that time you can take the kids out trick or treating around your own or your favorite neighborhood. No little goblins? If you'd like to give out candy, just stock up on sweets and turn your porch light on from five to eight on Friday the 31st! Now, if you're planning on taking your kids trick or treating, it's important to keep some basic safety precautions in mind. Here are a few to consider: 1. Costumes should fit well (to avoid tripping and falling), be bright (for better visibility since it'll get dark during the Trick or Treating hours), and warm (self explanatory at this time of year!). 2. Depending on how old your kids are, you should either go with them from house to house or stay on the same street as they are trick or treating on. Older kids will definitely want you to stay in the car, and that's fine as long as you can keep an eye on them. 3. Make sure your trick or treaters have a few rules down: use sidewalk and designated walkways only (no cutting across lawns!), always have at least one person with you, and say "Thank you!" after receiving treats, even if it's the neighborhood dentist giving out apples again. We hope everyone in and around Kenosha has a safe,  happy Halloween this year!

Family Fun in Kenosha this Month

Kenosha WI Events March 2014 Looking to get the family out of the house now that we're finally starting to thaw out? In addition to providing you with incredible prices on new and used vehicles that can help you get around and out of town whenever your heart desires, we're also giving you some suggestions on what to do around town this month! Here are some of our top picks for Kenosha WI events in March 2014 for the whole family to enjoy: First of all, as fellow car enthusiasts we're glad to tell you that the Kenosha History Center's "My Pride & Joy" exhibit is back on display as of March 11th after some electrical problems had put it on hiatus. You'll be able to see classics like a 1923 Ford Model T Runabout, a 1956 VW Dune Buggy, among others, and a new crop of vintage automobiles will be on display as of April 1st. This event is free, but if you'd like to make a donation to ensure future exhibits like this are available for everyone to enjoy, there's a suggested rate of $2 for adults and $1 for kids. Have you been to the Dinosaur Discovery Museum yet? On March 8-9, March 15-16, March 23, and March 29-30, you can bring the kids to a first-hand paleontology excavation activity. It's completely free and a great chance to teach kids more about fossils and let them get involved hands-on. Programs run from 1-4 on designated days. And don't forget the Kenosha Winter HarborMarket! Every Saturday through May 10, you can come on down to 510 56th Street at the Rhode Center for the Arts and find great things to buy like artisan cheeses, baked goods, arts & crafts, and more from about two dozen vendors. The event will move outdoors and be the huge farm market you know and love with much more on offer after it warms up in May, but in the meantime, this weekly event is well worth checking out, and the kids will have fun, too! We hope the remaining weeks of winter find you well, and bring on the spring!

Deer hunting information for the upcoming season

Wisconsin gun hunt 2013 Ready to take your GMC Sierra out for the gun hunt this season? Palmen Buick GMC Cadillac has all your 2013 Wisconsin gun hunting information right here in one convenient place. We’ve noticed that the details for these events tend to get scattered throughout a series of pages and downloadable files, and we wanted to give you a one-glance view of the important details for this year’s hunt. What: Wisconsin gun hunting for white-tailed deer When: The dates for 2013 are Saturday, November 23 -  Sunday, December 1. The exact times vary greatly from area to area, and you can find a complete table on the DNR website, but you should plan to be allowed to hunt from 30 minutes before sunrise to 20 minutes after sunset in your location. You Need: If you were born on or after Jan. 1, 1973, you’ll need to have taken the Wisconsin Hunter Education course or an equivalent and have your certificate or other proof on hand when you purchase your hunting license, which you’ll also need in order to hunt. Licenses can be purchased at a number of locations, including Dick’s Sporting Goods on 76th Street, Gander Mountain on 118th Ave., Harborside Bait and Tackle, and several others. Depending on where you’re hunting, you’ll need to get the correct CWD carcass tags. They can also be purchased at the locations in Kenosha that are listed above. You may use 2012 CWD Unit Buck Authorization stickers from last  year’s antlerless deer hunt if you did not use them during last year’s harvest. They are not transferable to another person, though, and are only good through the 2013 season. Likewise, any Buck Authorization sticker that you earn this year through the harvest of an antlerless deer may be used for next year’s hunt if you wish to retain it until then. Please be aware that they’re not replaceable, though, so keep it in a safe place you won’t forget about! We recommend visiting the DNR website for all the important rules and regulations, but hopefully this overview will help! Happy hunting!
